Freestanding & portable

No fly bar.
Still theatre.

The Drape Support System (DSS) is a portable, freestanding drape system you put up by hand - no rigging, no fixings into the ceiling. Each bay is a goalpost: two telescopic uprights, one telescopic crossbar, two base plates with spigots and 10 kg shot-bag ballast, dressed in a drape. Bays come 3.1 m or 4.1 m wide and link side-by-side to build a drape wall at any length.

The room has no fly bar, the get-in is short, and the result still has to read as theatre. The DSS comes in three heights - 3, 4 and 6 m - and dresses in inherently flame-retardant (IFR) Wool Serge or Velour which meets AS 1530 standards, fixed to the bar with the Option D hook-and-loop header for a clean finish every time. Tool-free up, tool-free down, and it packs into carry bags between events. Spec the drape in the Drape Selector and we size the bays around it.

The system, specified

One bay,
linked to any length.

A Full Kit is one complete bay - two telescopic uprights, one telescopic crossbar, two base plates with spigots, shot-bag ballast and a drape. An Extension Kit adds a single bay to an existing run, and bays link side-by-side for any length. Here are the real figures, grouped by what they set.

Tool-free assembly. Freestanding on 10 kg shot bags. The drape is inherently flame retardant and meets AS 1530 standards, fixed with the Option D hook-and-loop header.

Index

Put together, a Full Kit goes up tool-free, stands freestanding on 10 kg shot bags with no rigging, dresses in IFR Wool or Velour with the Option D header, and meets AS 1530 standards. Add Extension Kits to reach any length, then pack it into carry bags between events - or store and protect the kit with a custom cover or bag. The drape side of the system - fabric choice, header and finishing - is set out on the Reveal Productions portable drape system page.

No. The Drape Support System is tool-free and freestanding. Each bay is a goalpost of two telescopic uprights, one telescopic crossbar and two base plates with spigots, held down with 10 kg shot bags - no fixings into the ceiling and no rigging crew. A small team puts it up and packs it down between sessions.
A Full Kit is one complete bay - two uprights, one crossbar, two base plates with spigots, shot-bag ballast and one drape. An Extension Kit adds a single bay to an existing run, and bays link side-by-side to build a continuous drape wall at any length. Bays come in 3.1 m and 4.1 m widths.
Three heights: Small at 3 m, Medium at 4 m and Large at 6 m, with drapes in 3.1 m and 4.1 m widths by the height. There is also a low 1.5 m Ops Surrounds version in Black Velour, built to screen tech boxes and front-of-house operator positions at live events.
Both are supplied in Black and both are inherently flame-retardant. Wool Serge at approx 550 gsm is heavier-duty with better light absorption and acoustic performance, suiting permanent and semi-permanent theatre installs, and is dry clean only. Velvet / Velour at approx 330 gsm is lightweight and compact folded for hire, corporate AV and conference where fast pack-down matters, and is machine washable - the small Ops Surrounds drape washes easily, while the taller 4 and 6 m drops are large to handle, so other cleaning methods suit those.
Yes. Both drape options are made with inherently flame-retardant (IFR) fabrics which meet AS 1530 standards. The frame is the freestanding structure; the drape that dresses it carries the flame retardancy the venue's compliance officer asks for.
Option D is a D-ring with a hook-and-loop tab fixing that replaces the slow, inconsistent eyes-and-ties method. The hook-and-loop tape feeds around the crossbar and through the D-ring, fastening tight and flush for a clean finish every time - fast to hang, consistent between operators, no ties and no tools. Heavier wool drapes hang as easily as lightweight velour, even at height.
Each bay stands on 10 kg shot bags - a Small full kit uses 2, Medium 4 and Large 6. The system packs into compact DSS carry bags for transport and storage, each carrying 2 to 3 kit components, with base plates stored separately. Replacement upright and crossbar ends, spare shot bags and carry bags are all stocked.
