How we spec it

Made to the room,
not the catalogue.

A sprung floor is not an off-the-shelf product. We measure the space, match the finish tier to how the room is used, then manufacture and cut the floor to fit at installation. Tell us the studio and the discipline, and we come back with the right build.

Step 1 of 5 · The room
Made in Australia

A hard floor sends impact
straight back into the body.

Repeat the jump for years on the wrong surface and the cost lands on feet, ankles, shins, knees and hips. A studio floor is not a finish detail. It is the equipment that protects the dancers using it, class after class, season after season.

Our own-brand sprung dance floor is structural plywood panels on an EPDM rubber shock-pad matrix, independently tested for force reduction and vertical deformation. We engineered the system in-house and produce it in our own workshop - made in Australia, supplied Australia wide, and now frequently specified by architects and builders. Every floor is measured and cut to fit the room at installation, and Tarkett-surfaced tiers carry Tarkett's 10-year warranty on the surface. It is one part of the full Dance & Studio Equipment range. Studios that know it as the Show Works sprung floor will find the range on the Show Works sprung floors page, now made by Theatre Safe Australia.

The four finish tiers

One sprung base,
four finishes.

Every finish tier shares the same independently tested sprung base. What changes is the top surface - and that is what you match to the discipline, the budget and whether the floor stays put or moves.

The base, defined once: structural plywood panels on an EPDM rubber shock-pad matrix, independently tested for force reduction and vertical deformation, and fire rated. Panels are manufactured to a standard size - full panels 1195 x 2390 x 30 mm, half panels 1195 x 1195 x 30 mm - and the floor is cut to fit the room at installation. Tarkett-surfaced tiers (Pointe and Classic) carry Tarkett's 10-year warranty on the surface.

Solo · The sprung base

The relocatable base floor.

The sprung structure on its own, with a paint, seal or DIY top of your choosing. Solo carries the force reduction every tier is built on, and it stays relocatable - it goes down without a tradesman and lifts again when the room changes. Start here when you want the protection now and the surface later.

Pointe · Solo plus vinyl

Built for ballet and pointe.

The Solo sprung base with dancefloor vinyl laid on top, in black or grey. The vinyl gives the grip and feel classical work needs, while the sprung base underneath takes the load off the body. This is the tier most ballet and pointe studios specify.

Classic · Solo plus acoustic vinyl

Self-healing, tap-suitable.

The Solo sprung base with iQ Granit Acoustic vinyl on top. The surface is self-healing and stands up to tap, so it suits a multi-discipline room that runs ballet one hour and tap the next. The acoustic layer also helps keep the noise down through the building.

Performance · Solo plus impact board

Stage-ready and paintable.

The Solo sprung base topped with a Weathertex impact board that takes paint, so the floor becomes part of the set. Performance is the stage-ready tier and the standard for Australian commercial theatre - the sprung floor that disappears into the show while it protects the people on it.

Every tier ships with the parts that make it a floor, not a kit of panels: custom joining clips, wave board, side ramps, screws and a moisture membrane. Not sure which tier fits the room? Tell us about your studio or browse the full dance & studio equipment range.

FAQ

Questions
about sprung floors.

If your question isn't here, call us or send a brief - we'll come back with the right answer for your studio.

Our sprung floor is a modular system: structural plywood panels sitting on a matrix of EPDM rubber shock-pads. The pads give controlled give underfoot, so the floor returns energy through every jump and landing. It is independently tested for force reduction and vertical deformation, which is the measure of how much impact the surface takes away from a dancer's feet, ankles, shins, knees and hips.
Solo is the relocatable base floor with the force reduction and a paint, seal or DIY top. Pointe adds dancefloor vinyl in black or grey. Classic adds iQ Granit Acoustic vinyl, which is self-healing and tap-suitable. Performance adds a paintable Weathertex impact board and is stage-ready, the standard for Australian commercial theatre. We help you match the tier to how the room is used.
Yes. The floor is semi-portable and goes down without a tradesman. Full panels are 1195 x 2390 x 30 mm and half panels are 1195 x 1195 x 30 mm. Each floor is supplied with custom joining clips, wave board, side ramps, screws and a moisture membrane, so it can be laid, lifted and relaid as the room demands.
Every floor is made to the room: panels are manufactured to a standard size, then the floor is cut to fit your space at installation. It is made in Australia, with replacement panels and surfaces available when they wear, and Tarkett-surfaced tiers carry Tarkett's 10-year warranty on the surface. Tell us about your studio and we'll spec the right build.
A sprung floor takes load off the body that a hard floor sends straight back into it. Our system was engineered in-house to protect feet, ankles, shins, knees and hips through years of class. The force-reduction result is the evidence behind that, but choosing the right tier and the right top surface for the discipline matters too, which is what the consult covers.
